From Monday 5 August for six months, all public transport fares in Queensland will be a flat rate of 50 cents per journey, regardless of the zones travelled.
50% concession fares will not apply during this time.
Travelling on a concession ticket
To receive a concession fare, students must:
- carry an approved Queensland student photo identification card, or
- wear an official Queensland school uniform.
Registered home education students 15 years and older who hold a valid Home Education Unit identification card are also eligible.
Students are not eligible for a concession if they hold:
- an interstate secondary student identification card
- an international or overseas secondary student identification card.
In certain circumstances, students may be eligible for the School Transport Assistance Scheme.
Students with a disability or enrolled in a Department of Education approved Intensive Language Unit may be eligible for the Student Special Program Pass.
Student ID cards
Secondary student identification cards for students in:
- years seven to 11 are valid until 31 March of the following year
- year 12 are valid until 31 December of the current year.
Home Education Unit ID cards are valid for 12 months from the date of registration. Please check the registration date and ensure you carry a valid ID card.
Using go card in South East Queensland
Primary, secondary and home education students can travel in South East Queensland using a go card.
- Students aged five-14 years (inclusive) need an orange child go card. The go card expiry will be set to the student's 15th birthday.
- School students 15 years and older must hold a valid student ID and buy a green concession go card online, at selected retailers, or over the phone.
Once you have your concession go card, please update its expiry date at the retailer. This will be set to the same expiry date as your student ID.
Updating expired go cards
To update expired green concession go cards students must present a valid student ID along with their expired go card at selected retailers to update.
The go card expiry date will be set to the same expiry date on the student ID.
School leavers
Year 12 school leavers planning to do further study should hold on to their student ID card to continue to travel on concession fares.
If you live in South East Queensland and finish high school this year, and are planning to do further study, you can continue to travel on concession fares:
- Until 31 March the following year by visiting selected go card retailers to extend your concession go card expiry date to 31 March the following year.
You'll need to show your expired school student ID. - As soon as you receive your new tertiary student ID:
- purchase a blue adult go card, and
- apply online for tertiary concession fares to be activated on your go card.
If you are no longer eligible for post-secondary or tertiary concession fares, you'll need to pay adult fares when you travel.
If you live in regional Queensland (outside the go card network) and go on to further study, you can continue to travel on concession fares:
- until 31 March the year after you leave school by showing your expired school student ID or new tertiary student ID
- as soon as you receive your new tertiary student ID, apply for a regional concession sticker to be applied to your ID.
If you are no longer eligible for post-secondary or tertiary concession fares, you'll need to pay adult fares when you travel.
